For a sustainable artistic ecosystem to function, different actors such as artists, curators, art managers, administrators, foundations, and government agencies must work together. This coordination requires an understanding of individual interests as well as a trusting relationship.
In the format Dreaming and Building our Imaginary Institution, theater maker and curator Pankaj Tiwari invites Ash Bhulayev, Michiel Vandervelde, Sandra Pier, Helga Baert, and Rabea Grand, five cultural practitioners to engage with a sustainable ecosystem. Together they will try to build an imaginative institution, its ideal structures, working methods, interpersonal relationships, etc. What is not available to you when you have the power in the administrative bodies? What are the concrete or fundamental differences between you and the institution? What are the limits of negotiations with the institutions and what has prevented their realization? What kind of responsibility should be borne by whom? What should the funding structure be? What should the hierarchical structure of the institutions look like, or should there be one at all? What should be the working model for this new institution? What human and financial resources are needed to get started? These could be a few of the questions that the cultural professionals will be addressing during five days in the Südbühne of the Gessnerallee.
On the last day of the residency, the cultural practitioners will present the results of the residency as a collective in the form of a symposium. The symposium will take place at the ZHdK in the Toni Areal Raum: 4 T06 and in the digital space. Here you can find the zoom link.
