January (the coldest month in Zurich) gets its name after Janus, a Roman God/x/dess* who ruled over doors and beginnings and passages. Doorways to what? In this workshop we will use dance to move ourselves and we will move to dance. It’s like a game of „hot and cold“ - let’s move together towards what we cannot name (yet), that we are not familiar with (yet), but that we know to be true in our bones.
The goal of this workshop will be to invent our own dances to ease our way into the new year and to find some warmth in our bones in the darkest and coldest month of the year. Through a series of exercises and exploratory assignments that rely on movement, dance, writing and scores, we will experiment different ways of prospecting the unknown. We will move alone, together, separately and collectively, using equally our muscles and our imagination. No previous dance/performance experience is needed.
Arttu Palmio works as a performer, choreographer and performance artist. Mostly working in collaboration, Arttu uses dance, moving image, text, language, and sound in order to create performances and choreographic situations in which something might or might not happen. Recent collaborators include Anna Maria Nowak/der Betrieb Wien, Karin Pauer & Aldo Giannotti, Liquid Loft / Chris Haring, Nathalie Rebholz / Joyfully Waiting, and Galaxia Wang. They are currently living and working in Zurich.
