TENT: A School of Performative Practices envisions a new institution that seeks to spread inclusion and diversity, intervening in the existing ecosystem of artistic practices. In essence, the goal of the project is to reach out to those artists who cannot afford to participate in the established European institutions due to financial, socio-cultural and bureaucratic constraints. The TENT is a temporary mobile institution that invites (3:1) non-European and European artists from different and difficult backgrounds (caste, class, race, gender, conflict area) to live and work together for a certain period of time (one to six months). The TENT creates a space for artists to negotiate and coexist within a structure that allows them to strive for equality without institutional hegemony. Art institutions have strong buildings, technologies, and resources, but they often lack participation for artists from diverse backgrounds.
The artists Raunak Khan (India), Akshay Gandhi (India), Giulia Savorani (Italy) will work on these issues for two weeks in a studio at Gessnerallee or ZHdK. On the last day of the residency they will open the doors of their studios.
