The mothers and fathers of the performers Nuray Demir and Minh Duc Pham already removed the dirt from the powerful institutions. In the early mornings, when the theaters and museums were empty, they removed the urine from the urinals or emptied the wastebaskets with the draft texts for the rejection letters to the artists of color. The lives of the second generation also take place outside the gaze of the dominant society, and they too are condemned to dirty work. In their co-production for the Gessnerallee, Nuray Demir and Minh Duc Pham work hard to make the institution shine clean. Meanwhile, the aggressive all-purpose cleaners of cultural studies are attacking their health. In Semiotics of Dirty Work, the two are putting in unpaid overtime to sand off the institution's stubborn ideological debris.
