Simone Truong invites you to a one-day workshop in the forest as part of the production Fungi Care. From sunrise to sunset, participants will immerse in the world of mushrooms, explore their role in the ecosystem and what people can learn from them about care in the community.
The day will start with exercises from the practice of choreographer Simone Truong. Inspired by the Japanese Shirin-Yoku (forest bathing), she brings the community closer to the forest and the ecosystem. Afterwards, mushroom inspector Urs Hilfiker takes the group on a walk through the forest and introduces them to the world of mushrooms. In the evening, under the guidance of the artist Maya Minder, the participants cook a dish from the mushrooms found on the forest walk and share their knowledge, learn about preparation methods in different cultures and the healing properties of mushrooms. At the end of the day, the participants will have dinner together and eat the dishes they have prepared.
Mushrooms can theoretically live forever and take on many different forms: Mycelia, fruiting bodies, spores. They play a central role in communication between plants or in transformation processes in their ecosystems, e.g. decomposition, regeneration, bioremediation (detoxification). These are essential functions for ecosystems and require a sensitive sensorium. How this functions in fungi has been largely unclear to human researchers.
This day aims to sharpen one's own perception and offers a new look at our ecosystem (consisting of the human and more-than-human community) and one's own role in it.
The meeting point is at Salzweg 50, 8048 Zurich. The workshop will take place in the community garden Grünhölzli and in the adjacent forest. The workshop will take place mostly outside, it is recommended to bring weatherproof and sufficiently warm clothing as well as a water bottle. The event will take place in all weather conditions except thunderstorms. Food (vegan) will be provided for lunch and dinner.
The workshop is for all people who are interested in spending a day outdoors as part of a group in the Grünhölzli community garden and the adjacent forest, exploring the themes of fungi, forest, ecosystem, movement, community and care. Or you are simply curious about a new experience. No previous experience is necessary, either in movement, biology, or cooking.
PLEASE NOTE: For planning purposes, tickets can only be purchased until Thursday, Oct. 19, 2023.
