This site-specific video walk leads its audience individually through Greencity in Zurich Manegg. Isolated between the Sihl river and the motorway, the district is the last and largest urban development area in Zurich, which has been created in recent years, mainly in the planning of a general contractor on the former industrial site of Sihlpapier AG. The last construction activities are still underway and, parallel to this, a new district of cooperatives, commercial buildings and surrounding green spaces is developing here, the atmosphere of which is characterised by first-time occupants and the gradual process of revitalisation.
Participants are guided through this area by a film on a tablet with headphones, whose image and sound track seem to lead a ghostly life of their own here on site. The film takes its audience into lively and uninhabited zones in indoor and outdoor spaces and shows public and hidden places between concrete and greenery as well as past and future. A narrative voice-over moves through labyrinthine spaces and opens up perspectives on interwoven themes of urbanity and ecology that manifest themselves in this neighbourhood, creating an immersive experience between the reality of the city and its
experience between the reality of the city and its expanded image in the film.
The project was created through long-term observation of the area and in conversations with residents and various actors in this newly developed neighbourhood. Local knowledge is condensed in the site-specific format of the video walk via a dense sound composition and animated interventions in the image to create a semi-fictional narration "on location".
The starting point is on Spinnereiplatz in front of the Spar supermarket near the SZU Manegg stop. On this video walk, participants are travelling individually and move through non-wheelchair-accessible terrain, up and down stairs and along non-asphalted paths. Sure-footed footwear is strongly recommended.
No box office on site. Tickets must be purchased online in advance.
