Discretion is at the same time what silences and what singles out the subject, creating the fiction of beings that can be individual and not inherently entangled. In what seems to be a solo performance, Catalina Insignares will stop being discrete and discreet.
“Since about 10 years, I have spent a long time in my work with the invisible: listening, not speaking, being moved and not moving by will, hosting others rather than taking the centre stage. This seems absolutely actual and important, but today I have come to see that all this becoming invisible is also a form of escaping from the terror of being visible, from the fact that I have been convinced – by all sorts of more or less internalized territorializing powers- that I am not worthy of being seen. A colonized dancing body, is a body that is marked by symbolic, psychologic and structural violences that do not consider it to be possible: Am I even able to see myself and let myself be seen by others? How to be visible? How can I make myself visible again?
Inspired by feminist practices of political support I will face the task of doing a “solo” work in the only way anyone can do something difficult: together with others. I will ask one womxn at the time, to come to the studio with me for 5 days, and help me re-become visible. Thus the “solo” will be made through a chain of encounters and trust with womxn who know something that I don’t.” - Catalina Insignares
